Taftoon: A journey through Grand Trunk Road.

Taftoon Bar & Kitchen, recreates the regional cuisine with a modern twist from living route of Grand Trunk Road. It was a journey through northern part of the Indian subcontinent in the 16th century, starting all the way from Afghanistan, through Pakistan, North India, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, finally halting at Bangladesh.

As soon as you entered you are welcomed by amazing decor designed by Payal Khanna, with hexagonal lights and various posters and art of cultural references.

20180520_201733Let’s start the gastronomical Grand Trunk Road journey curated by Chef Milan Gupta.
The course starts with a warm welcome drink Kahwa made of saffron almonds and honey, served in a clay pot.

.

Continued with their signature appetizer Taftoon Pe Harissa- Tender Chicken.
Taftoon basically means bread and its topped with harissa paste made from stone grinding and spicing up with cardamom, saffron with truffle oil. So yum. But it comes with just three portions, that’s a bummer!
Next up Lipta Jalpari Jheenga (Punjab region), its Prawns wrapped in Chicken glazed with mustard and barbequed . some might find it little sweet due to mustard but its so delicious.
Mirza Hansu Tikka from Old Lucknow region, its basically slow cooked and smoked tandoor chicken.
Kakori Kebab from Kakori region (Lucknow) was one of the best kebabs I ever had! Its just melts into your mouth. So yum.

It is Main course time!
Tawa Kheema Boti, the dish from Galib ki Haveli,Delhi regional version of minced goat meat.
Punjabi spicy version of Butter Chicken; I was literally drooling over this dish (by far best butter chicken in town) with Butter Roti and my favorite Lal Naan loaded with chili oil and sesame seeds.
But wasn’t impress with Boneless Chicken Hyderabadi Biryani.

They also got interesting cocktails and mocktails. We tried Indian Masala Lemonade, Basil & Pomegranate Limade, Detox Potion was refreshing and good’ol Mojito.

We did experience that waiting period to get your dishes is long, but when they taste so amazing I wouldn’t mind waiting.
